The Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs recently convened a strategic meeting with a team from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to explore initiatives aimed at enhancing women’s access to finance and land rights.
During the meeting, the Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs expressed deep gratitude to FAO for its ongoing commitment to promoting women’s empowerment, particularly in the realms of land ownership and financial access. The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to reforming both the land and financial sectors to ensure that women receive equitable opportunities and resources that foster economic growth and social justice.
Highlighting the significance of collaboration between the Ministry and FAO, the Minister emphasized the need for joint efforts to advance gender equality and justice in these critical areas. She pointed to key legislative frameworks that underpin women’s land rights, including the Customary Land Rights Act and the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) Act, which serve as vital legal instruments for the protection and promotion of women’s rights.
On behalf of the FAO team, Ms. Olara Park praised the Ministry for its steadfast commitment to gender equality, particularly regarding women’s participation in financial inclusion and land ownership. She reaffirmed FAO’s support for initiatives that empower women in land rights, agriculture, and finance.
The meeting underscored the Government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening women’s rights, improving access to productive resources, and ensuring inclusive development across all sectors.
