Two Men Remanded to High Court Over Alleged Treason Knowledge

FREETOWN, Sierra Leone Two individuals, former ward coordinator Mohamed Sanu and Pastor Kelly Marrah, are set to face trial at the High Court after a magistrate ruled that they must answer to charges of misprision of treason. This decision was made on Monday, November 10, 2025, by Magistrate Mustapha Briama Jah at Freetown Magistrate Court No. 1.

The ruling follows weeks of hearings where the prosecution presented its case, arguing that Sanu and Marrah were aware of an alleged conspiracy against the state orchestrated by Daniel Keleh Mansaray (alias Ceaser) and others from November 2023 to July 2025 but chose not to report it.

State Counsel Yusuf Isaac Sesay, who led the prosecution, declared, “We have closed our case after presenting multiple witnesses,” asserting that sufficient evidence exists to proceed to trial.

In a measured response, Magistrate Jah stated, “The evidence before this court is sufficient to raise a prima facie case,” ordering that both men remain in custody at the Male Correctional Facility until their trial date is set.

Family members present in the courtroom exhibited visible distress following the magistrate’s ruling, while supporters of Sanu and Marrah insisted on their innocence, describing them as “law-abiding citizens caught in political turmoil.”

The upcoming High Court trial will determine whether the charges against the two men are substantiated or dismissed.
