In a significant step towards enhancing bilateral relations, the Speaker of the Sierra Leone Parliament, Rt. Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, met with Fatih Ilhan, CEO of Afro-Anatolia Consultancy Services, on November 19, 2025, to inaugurate the Türkiye-Sierra Leone Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Programme.

This initiative aims to facilitate the sharing of experiences, promote business networking, and strengthen the capacity of lawmakers from both countries. During the discussion, Ilhan detailed the programme’s extensive objectives, which include exchanging insights across various critical sectors such as mining, agriculture, culture, technology, industry, and education. “Türkiye’s wealth of history, advanced technology, and robust industrial sector provide valuable lessons that could greatly benefit Sierra Leone’s development agenda,” he remarked.

Speaker Thomas lauded the initiative as a “timely boost for our parliament’s outreach and a catalyst for economic growth.” He announced plans to form a ten-member parliamentary delegation to visit Türkiye early next year, marking a proactive step toward deeper collaboration.

This partnership reflects an increasing emphasis on South-South cooperation, with both nations striving to convert diplomatic goodwill into concrete projects. The collaboration is expected to facilitate joint ventures, training initiatives, and cultural exchanges, further solidifying their bilateral ties.

As the programme unfolds, it aims to nurture not only legislative dialogue but also robust people-to-people connections. The planned delegation’s visit will serve as a critical indicator of the partnership’s capacity to transform diplomatic intentions into tangible developmental outcomes.
