Speaker Thomas Commemorates World Children’s Day in Parliament

On November 20, 2025, Rt. Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, Speaker of Parliament, joined global leaders in commemorating World Children’s Day, which this year was observed under the theme “My Days, My Right.”

The Parliament’s Chamber was transformed into a lively celebration as school pupils filled the seats, creating an atmosphere of youthful enthusiasm. In his address, Speaker Thomas welcomed the children and emphasized their importance, stating, “Your voices matter.” He stressed that the theme underlines every child’s right to participate in shaping their future based on their own aspirations.

Additionally, Speaker Thomas announced that Parliament would host a National Children’s Dialogue at 2 PM in Committee Room One, organized in collaboration with the Health, Gender, and Social Welfare committees. This event aims to engage in meaningful discussions on pressing issues affecting children.

Hon. Abdul Sulaiman Marray-Conteh, Chairman of the Legislative Committee, also welcomed the young visitors and mentioned plans for a special celebration in Committee Room One with select committees.

Opposition Deputy Leader Hon. Daniel Brima Koroma participated in the festivities, urging the children to embrace their education seriously and highlighting President Bio’s Free Quality Education initiative. He reminded them of their responsibility to study hard and strive for success as the nation’s future leaders.

The event underscored Parliament’s dedication to providing a platform for children’s voices and ensuring that their rights are recognized in the highest levels of governance.
