SALWACO MD Tiideni Jabbi Tours Kenema, Advocates for Improved Water Services

On November 26, 2025, the Managing Director of the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO), Ing. Tiideni Hawa Jabbi, visited the Kenema station as part of her nationwide tour and site inspections. Accompanying her were key figures from SALWACO, including Board Chairman Joseph Ndanema, Board Member PC Amy Kallon, Director of Operations Ing. Abdul Ben Lebbie, and Director of Project Management Ing. Yankuba Tarawally.

Upon arrival, SALWACO’s Regional Manager for the East, Briama Allieu, warmly welcomed the delegation and congratulated MD Jabbi on her historic appointment as the first female head of the company. He highlighted the progress made within the Eastern Region, which encompasses Kailahun, Kenema, and Blama stations, while emphasizing the need for additional support to enhance staff performance in fulfilling their responsibilities.

During the visit, Station Manager Ing. Osman Turay delivered an extensive update on Kenema’s operations, detailing both the station’s achievements and its challenges. Turay noted the station’s potential for continued service excellence but stressed the importance of addressing urgent issues to ensure consistent quality in service delivery.

Mary Mansaray Ngegba, SALWACO’s Director of Communication, Gender, and Outreach, expressed her support for MD Jabbi, asserting that women’s leadership is vital in recognizing the centrality of water in people’s lives. She called for national collaboration and accountability to achieve the organization’s objectives, urging staff to back the new MD in her initiatives.

Ing. Yankuba Tarawally announced that Kenema will soon benefit from a solar-powered project aimed at alleviating electricity challenges for the station. He indicated plans to implement similar projects at other SALWACO locations. Director of Operations Ing. Abdul Ben Lebbie reiterated that MD Jabbi is driven by results and that team collaboration is essential for moving SALWACO forward.

In her keynote address, MD Jabbi reaffirmed her commitment to transforming SALWACO into a functional and financially sustainable entity. She called on staff and stations to strive for improved results, noting that successful operations would warrant the necessary support from management to enhance working conditions for employees and service outcomes for customers.

MD Jabbi’s nationwide tour commenced in Makeni and Magburaka, progressing through Kabala, Lunsar, and Port Loko. The first week concluded in Kambia, Rokupr, and Lungi, Kaffu Bullom Chiefdom. The second week included visits to Mile 91, Moyamba, Bonthe Island, Pujehun, Bo, and Kenema.

The MD plans to continue engaging with various departments to better understand the operational landscape and implement strategies for enhanced service delivery.
