Unpaid Salaries Spark Nationwide Strike at SALPOST in 2025

By Joseph Momoh, Daily Scope Reporter

Employees of Sierra Leone Postal Services (SALPOST) have commenced a nationwide strike today, protesting against a year of unpaid salaries. The workforce gathered outside the SALPOST headquarters in Freetown early this morning, demanding immediate resolution to their salary issues before resuming duties.

The employees expressed that the prolonged delay in payments has inflicted severe financial strain on them and their families. “We have been patient for too long. People are struggling to feed their families. We cannot continue working without pay,” stated one of the protesting workers.

The industrial action has significantly disrupted postal services nationwide, leading to delays in mail delivery and other critical operations. Public concerns have heightened as many depend on SALPOST for communication, parcel shipment, and official documentation.

As of this report, SALPOST management has yet to release an official statement regarding the strike or address the claims of overdue salaries. It remains uncertain if any negotiations between staff representatives and management have begun.
