The British High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Josephine Gauld, has expressed admiration for the ongoing reforms being pioneered in the Judiciary under the leadership of Chief Justice, His Lordship Hon. Justice Komba Kamanda.
High Commissioner Gauld made the remarks during a courtesy visit to the Chief Justice’s Chambers in Freetown on Monday, September 15, 2026.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both leaders to discuss the Chief Justice’s priorities for the new Judicial Year 2026/27 and explore avenues for deeper cooperation between Sierra Leone and the United Kingdom.
Discussions centred on the Judiciary’s reform agenda, continued support from the UK-Sierra Leone Pro Bono Network, and joint efforts to strengthen the rule of law and enhance justice delivery.
High Commissioner Gauld also used the occasion to thank Chief Justice Kamanda for inviting her to the Judicial Thanksgiving Service held on Sunday at St. George’s Cathedral in Freetown.
In his response, Chief Justice Kamanda thanked the British High Commissioner for her consistent support to the Judiciary and for gracing the Thanksgiving Service.
He said he welcomes further collaboration and support that would help improve the administration of justice nationwide, stressing that partnerships are key to building an effective and independent justice system.
The meeting reaffirms the long-standing cooperation between Sierra Leone and the United Kingdom in advancing access to justice, rule of law and judicial independence.
