Freetown – December 1, 2025 – The Minister of Internal Affairs, Rtd. AIG Morie Lengor Esq, met with Spanish Ambassador Angel Carrascal, alongside Honourable Consul Antoine Yazbeck and Home Affairs Attache Carlos V Gobiet Lopez, at his office on Gloucester Street to discuss collaboration on security matters.
The meeting aimed to strengthen partnerships between Sierra Leone and Spain, with a focus on improving security, particularly in relation to migration issues. Ambassador Carrascal emphasized the significance of enhancing cooperation between the two nations, highlighting the importance of information sharing as a critical tool for addressing governance challenges, specifically in the realms of migration and human trafficking.
Ambassador Carrascal outlined Spain’s strategy for managing migration flows in West Africa, reiterating Spain’s commitment to providing development aid to tackle the root causes of migration. He reaffirmed the importance of human rights in migration management and pledged continued support for Sierra Leone’s security initiatives, indicating a desire to expand cooperation in this area.
In his remarks, Minister Lengor expressed gratitude for the longstanding partnership with Spain, praising the collaborative efforts that have contributed to peace and security in Sierra Leone. He shared that the Ministry is finalizing its first-ever five-year strategic plan, providing an overview of the nine agencies and departments under its supervision, and their respective roles.
He stressed the necessity for collaboration to ensure the effective implementation of the strategic plan, which aims to bolster national security while being transparent and accountable to the citizens of Sierra Leone.
Minister Lengor concluded by seeking resources and assistance to empower the agencies to achieve their objectives, emphasizing the critical need for support in addressing security challenges.
The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, David Fortune, the Permanent Secretary, Alfred Lahai, and other senior staff also acknowledged the importance of the visit, reiterating the need to enhance security frameworks addressing both global and national governance issues.
