Monrovia – December 2, 2025 – Senior officials from the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and the Liberia National Police (LNP) convened at the LNP Headquarters Conference Hall to strategize the implementation of a recently signed bilateral security communiqué.
The meeting aimed to craft a draft roadmap for creating the Mano River Union Police Chiefs Committee, a specialized body intended to foster cooperation, bolster joint security efforts, and promote sustained peace and understanding among police leaders in the Mano River Union (MRU) basin. Both agencies reaffirmed their commitment to resolving disputes through legal and diplomatic channels, emphasizing a non-confrontational approach in adherence to local and international law.
During this session, the technical working group engaged in extensive discussions centered on four key areas of mutual interest:
- Cross-border crime prevention and intelligence sharing
- Joint training and capacity-building programs
- Community policing best practices
- Cybersecurity, human trafficking, and transnational organized crime
Both the SLP and LNP outlined actionable strategies to fulfill the goals set forth in the communiqué, emphasizing that such efforts will not only enhance security collaboration but also reduce bureaucratic hurdles in addressing pressing national issues for both nations.
The joint team identified priority areas for phased implementation, aiming to deepen bilateral cooperation and foster long-term peace and stability throughout the sub-region.
