A delegation of medical specialists from the Surgeons in Action Foundation has made a courtesy visit to Inspector General of Police (IGP) William Fayia Sellu in Sierra Leone. The visit, which occurred on February 2, 2026, marks the foundation’s twelfth humanitarian mission to the country over the past three years, aimed at providing free surgical operations at the Police Hospital in Kingtom.
Dr. John Mumuneh Konteh, Medical Superintendent of the Police Hospital, introduced the team to the IGP and outlined their plans to address over 200 medical cases during this mission. These include surgeries for goitre, lipoma, hernia, appendicitis, and various other general surgical conditions. Dr. Konteh praised the IGP’s leadership for improvements in the hospital’s infrastructure, equipment, and overall service delivery.
Team Lead Dr. Eduardo Pera Del Pozo expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended by the Sierra Leone Police and the hospital management. He underscored the importance of collaboration with local medical professionals, emphasizing that such partnerships enhance medical capacity and patient outcomes. He also introduced the other members of the visiting team.
IGP Sellu commended the Surgeons in Action Foundation for their ongoing commitment to providing free medical services in Sierra Leone. He noted that the collaboration has significantly benefited both the police force and the broader community, drawing patients not only from Sierra Leone but also from neighboring countries like Liberia, Guinea, and Côte d’Ivoire.
Highlighting the transformation of the Police Hospital into a modern healthcare facility, the IGP acknowledged the role of international support, including donations and expertise from the Spanish surgeons. He presented the delegation with medical certificates, formally authorizing them to practice in Sierra Leone, in accordance with national regulations.
The visit concluded with a photo session, signaling the commencement of another round of free surgical services at the Police Hospital in Kingtom.
