Dubai, United Arab Emirates, February 5, 2026 – At the World Government Summit in Dubai, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security, Hon. Mohamed Rahman Swaray, engaged in key discussions with His Excellency Dr. Abdulrahman Abdulmannan Al Awar, UAE Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation.

Minister Swaray expressed gratitude for the UAE’s longstanding support to Sierra Leone, highlighting the strength of their bilateral relations, particularly following the 2021 Memorandum of Understanding aimed at enhancing cooperation in labour migration. He praised the UAE’s progressive labour reforms and emphasized Sierra Leone’s eagerness to adopt best practices from UAE’s workforce development strategies.

“President Dr. Julius Maada Bio aims to create job opportunities for our youth who are eager to contribute. We acknowledge the critical shortage of skilled middle-level manpower. With a workforce ready to work and learn, we seek collaboration in technical and vocational training to better equip our citizens for a competitive job market,” Minister Swaray stated.

In response, Minister Al Awar commended Sierra Leone’s commitment to job creation and its investments in the welfare of its citizens. He shared insights on the UAE’s vibrant private sector and outlined potential avenues for cooperation in key growth areas.

A significant outcome of their meeting was the agreement to establish a joint technical working group dedicated to developing skills training programs, designed to benefit Sierra Leone’s workforce across various sectors.

Earlier, Minister Swaray also took part in the ‘Future of Work Forum,’ where global labour leaders convened to discuss evolving trends in the workforce.
