The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development has de-registered 19 non-governmental organizations in Sierra Leone for failing to comply with national regulations governing the sector.

In a press release issued on 13 July 2026, the Ministry said the revocations took effect immediately following a nationwide compliance verification exercise. The assessment found that the affected organizations did not meet minimum legal, operational, and reporting requirements under the NGO Policy framework and other statutory provisions.

According to the Ministry, the crackdown forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen oversight, improve accountability, and ensure that NGOs operating in the country adhere to established standards.
