BOMBALI — The Livestock and Livelihoods Development Project (LLDP) and the Sierra Leone Agricultural Research Institute (SLARI) have trained livestock farmers on producing their own animal feed as a strategy to reduce conflicts with crop farmers.
The two-day training held at the Teko Livestock Research Centre in Bombali District equipped participants with practical skills in growing and managing fodder crops to ensure a sustainable and affordable supply of feed for their animals.
The programme is aimed at improving feeding practices, promoting responsible livestock management and addressing longstanding tensions between livestock owners and crop farmers over crop destruction and grazing.
Speaking at the training, District Agricultural Officer Lamin Bogba said disputes between the two groups have persisted and stressed the need for practical solutions that promote peaceful coexistence.
He urged participants to apply the knowledge gained and to share it with other farmers in their communities, describing them as ambassadors for improved livestock practices.
The LLDP-SLARI partnership seeks to boost livestock production, strengthen rural livelihoods and promote sustainable agricultural practices that enhance food security and foster harmony among farming communities.
