The Northwest Regional Police Division is actively investigating the suspicious death of Sergeant Bayoh, a military officer whose body was discovered in a pit near the Commodity Trading Company (CTC) Mining site at Gbere Junction, Port Loko District. The grim discovery occurred on October 27, 2025, when Umaru Bilkish Kamara, a Community Liaison Officer with CTC, and Corporal Conteh (M18181706), also affiliated with the company, stumbled upon the deceased.
Initial reports indicate that Sergeant Bayoh may have been attacked and subsequently disposed of in the pit by unknown assailants. This shocking event has sparked fear and heightened security concerns among residents of Gbere Junction and surrounding areas, prompting calls for swift action from local authorities to ensure community safety.
In response to the incident, a joint operation involving the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) and the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has been initiated to uncover the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death. Sources indicate that several individuals have been arrested as part of this ongoing investigation.
Ambassador Bon Wurie, the Resident Minister of the Northwest Region, has condemned the killing and urged security forces to enhance surveillance and bring the responsible parties to justice. He also called on local authorities and community leaders to fully cooperate with the investigation.
As a precaution, Gbere Junction and neighboring communities are currently under heightened security, with joint forces conducting operations in the area. Authorities have promised to keep the public informed as the investigation unfolds.
