A mudslide at the FB Group construction site in Lungi has killed two workers and left two others critically injured, raising fresh concerns over safety at the multi-million dollar International Conference Centre project.
The incident occurred Wednesday during underground pipe installation at the complex near Lungi International Airport. Four workers were trapped when a section of soil collapsed on them.
Emergency responders pulled all four from the ground and rushed them to Lungi Hospital. Two later died from their injuries. Sources confirmed the deceased as one Sierra Leonean and one Senegalese national.
The two survivors were transferred to Freetown for intensive medical treatment. Hospital officials have not disclosed their current condition.
FB Group is the main contractor for the International Conference Centre and hotel complex, a flagship project ahead of upcoming international summits. As of press time, the company had not issued a statement or confirmed the casualties.
Police and labour officials have launched an investigation into the collapse, including whether proper safety measures were in place for underground works.
The tragedy has sparked calls for stricter enforcement of workplace safety standards at major construction sites across the country.
Further details are expected as authorities continue their probe.
