President Bio Strengthens Ties with OACPS

Freetown, July 28, 2025 — President Julius Maada Bio convened a meeting at State House today with H.E. Moussa Saleh Batraki, the Secretary-General of the Organization of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States (OACPS), to discuss avenues for enhanced cooperation in Sierra Leone’s economic development.

During their discussions, President Bio reiterated his administration’s commitment to integrating Sierra Leone more effectively into the global economy. The leaders explored potential initiatives through OACPS to bolster economic growth, particularly in addressing critical issues such as poverty and unemployment.

A key focus of the dialogue was on strengthening trade relations, with President Bio seeking OACPS support to improve access to international markets for Sierra Leonean products. The discussions also highlighted the necessity of capacity-building measures aimed at enhancing governance and institutional frameworks essential for national development.

Both leaders acknowledged the importance of promoting sustainable practices in agriculture and fisheries, aligning these efforts with Sierra Leone’s environmental conservation goals.
