The Kenema Young Women Governance Network (KYWGN) is taking decisive action following the recent assault of Aminata Kamara, a young woman from Koya. Reports indicate that Aminata was sexually assaulted after rejecting advances from a man, who subsequently attacked her with a machete, leaving her with severe injuries.

In the wake of this tragedy, members of the KYWGN visited the government hospital where Aminata is currently receiving treatment, seeking to gather more information from her family. The network has been in close contact with Aminata’s mother to ensure that the situation is comprehensively understood and addressed appropriately. KYWGN expressed their deep concern over the widespread implications of harassment and sexual assault, emphasizing the need for safe and supportive environments where young women can thrive.

“We are committed to ensuring that Aminata, like every young woman, receives the justice she deserves,” stated Janneh Baby of the Kenema Young Women Governance Network. The organization reassured the community that they will continue to advocate for Aminata’s well-being while working to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Alongside the broader Young Women Governance Network, KYWGN pledged to stand firmly with Aminata, providing her with the necessary support during this challenging time. The network remains dedicated to raising awareness about the urgent need for safety and protection for all young women in the community.
