The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has initiated a comprehensive meter inspection campaign in Freetown, targeting individuals involved in electricity theft. Recent video footage circulating online captures EDSA staff actively inspecting meters, revealing what officials describe as a significant issue with illegal electricity connections.

Reports from the inspection teams indicate that an alarming 80% of the meters inspected in Freetown have been found to be tampered with or illegally connected to multiple power sources. One notable video, shared by S.L. News Blog, shows inspectors at Signal Hill discovering a residence where a single-phase meter was illegally connected to two supply plugs. Additionally, the meter was found to have been tampered with, allowing the household to consume electricity without making any payment.

In response to the rising tide of electricity theft, EDSA has issued a stern warning, announcing their intention to publicly disclose the names and addresses of those found guilty on social media platforms. The authority urges the public to refrain from engaging in illegal connections, highlighting the detrimental impact of lost revenue on their efforts to enhance electricity supply for all citizens.

Citizens are further advised against tampering with their meters, as EDSA inspection teams are conducting checks throughout the city. Those found guilty of electricity theft will face stringent legal repercussions.
