S/L Ambassador Drives Economic Diplomacy in Türkiye

By Joseph Momoh, Daily Scope Reporter

Istanbul, February 18, 2026 Dr. Francess Virginia Anderson, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sierra Leone to Türkiye, has embarked on a pivotal week-long visit to Istanbul aimed at fostering economic ties and attracting investment. Accompanied by her team, Ambassador Anderson engaged with prominent Turkish private-sector investors, underlining the evolving role of diplomats in today’s global economy.

In a series of strategic discussions, the Ambassador articulated her vision for Sierra Leone’s economic diplomacy. She emphasized the need to move beyond traditional political relationships, framing ambassadors as economic representatives charged with driving development through enhanced trade and investment opportunities. Her mission includes promoting priority sectors in Sierra Leone, facilitating foreign direct investment (FDI), and establishing business-to-business partnerships that shift the focus from aid dependency to collaborative growth.

This initiative follows the successful Trade and Investment Seminar hosted by the Sierra Leone Embassy in Türkiye on May 30, 2025. That event laid the groundwork for future engagements by connecting government officials, industry leaders, and investors from both nations.

Post-visit, the Embassy has identified key players in Türkiye’s business sector who will join an upcoming Trade and Investment Mission to Sierra Leone. This mission aims to connect them with local authorities and business figures to explore actionable investment opportunities.

Key sectors highlighted during the Istanbul meetings included renewable energy (particularly solar), infrastructure development, manufacturing, tourism, fisheries, agriculture, and education. These sectors are strategically aligned with Sierra Leone’s national development objectives and its commitment to sustainable, private-sector-led growth.

Ambassador Anderson characterized the Istanbul visit as a crucial advancement in Sierra Leone’s economic diplomacy strategy, aiming to forge long-lasting, results-driven partnerships with Türkiye’s vibrant private sector.
