Sierra Leone’s newly appointed Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, H.E. Philip Bob Jusu, formally assumed duties as Head of Mission to the European Union on Wednesday, 6 May, after presenting his letters of credence to the presidents of the European Commission and the European Council in Brussels.
Ambassador Jusu was accompanied by Deputy Head of Mission Mrs. Asmaa James and Head of Chancery Mr. Jonathan Las-Lamin.
In a solemn ceremony at the EU headquarters, the Ambassador first delivered the letters of recall of his predecessor and subsequently presented his own letters of credence to European Council President H.E. António Costa. He later carried out the same diplomatic protocol with European Commission President H.E. Ursula von der Leyen.
The accreditation marks Ambassador Jusu’s official start as Sierra Leone’s principal envoy to the 27-member bloc.
The European Union has been a longstanding partner of Sierra Leone, providing support in governance reform, economic resilience, and inclusive growth initiatives. Diplomatic sources indicate that Ambassador Jusu will prioritize expanding cooperation in trade, climate resilience, and institutional capacity building during his tenure.
