LONDON – Sierra Leone and Sweden have renewed commitment to deepen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in trade, education and global diplomacy.
This assurance was given on Tuesday when His Excellency Dr. Morie Komba Manyeh, Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, received Ambassador Johan Frisell, Africa Director and Head of the Africa Department at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, at the Sierra Leone High Commission in London.
Ambassador Frisell, who was accompanied by Desk Officer Ms Annika Jacobsson, held talks with High Commissioner Manyeh on issues bordering on mutual interest, including trade and investment, education and skills transfer, and collaboration within multilateral institutions.
Welcoming his guests, High Commissioner Manyeh briefed them on recent developments in Sierra Leone’s foreign policy, including the appointment of Hon. Mohamed Rahman Swaray as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. He expressed optimism that the new leadership at the Foreign Ministry will further strengthen the longstanding friendship between Freetown and Stockholm.
In his response, Ambassador Frisell commended Sierra Leone for its remarkable performance during its tenure as an elected member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2024-2025 term — a historic return to the Council after over 50 years. He praised the country’s constructive role and contribution to international peace and security.
High Commissioner Manyeh reiterated Sierra Leone’s keen interest in broadening its partnership with Sweden, with emphasis on areas that will drive economic growth and human-capital development for the benefit of both nations.
The meeting was attended by senior staff of the High Commission including Mrs. Juliana S.H. Fallah, Minister Plenipotentiary and Head of Chancery; Ms. Patricia Syl Kamara, Counsellor/Head of Consular; Ms. Hawah Bah, First Secretary; Mr. Sahr Dugba, Trade Attaché; and Mr. Abdulai M. Braima, Information Attaché.
The courtesy visit ended with both sides reaffirming their shared commitment to scale up practical cooperation and strengthen coordination on global issues.
