The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) has formally recognized Ezekiel Wallace, a Sierra Leonean residing in Canada, for his remarkable contributions to education in the remote Mabombom Village.
Chief Education Officer Edward Kpakra led an MBSSE delegation to the village, where they celebrated Wallace’s efforts in establishing a community secondary school, thereby providing essential educational access to the hard-to-reach area in the Bombali district.
Wallace’s initiative involves not only the construction of a school building but also the payment of stipends to volunteer community teachers, the provision of teaching and learning materials, and the distribution of school uniforms to students. “We, as a community, are very happy to hear that the Ministry of Education came to visit,” said Pa Alimamy Conteh, section chief of Mabombom Village, expressing gratitude for Wallace’s unwavering support.
Emphasizing the significance of Wallace’s contributions, CEO Kpakra noted that his work resonates with President Julius Maada Bio’s Human Capital Development initiative, which aims to ensure that every child receives an education. “This is a very impressive effort given to a community by one of the products of the said community,” Kpakra remarked.
As the proprietor of the Mabombom Village Secondary School, Ezekiel Wallace has expressed his commitment to further expanding educational opportunities, with plans to establish additional schools in other communities. The MBSSE delegation included key officials such as the Director of School Quality Assurance, the Director of Curriculum Development and Research, the Ministry’s Deputy Secretary, and the Deputy Director of Education in Bombali District, who all witnessed firsthand the positive impact of Wallace’s contributions.
