The Embassy of the Republic of Sierra Leone (SL) in Kuwait has officially welcomed Mr. Moinena Massaquoi as the newly appointed Minister Counsellor/Head of Chancery. The induction ceremony took place on February 19 at the Chancery located in South Surra, Al-Zahra, marking the start of his diplomatic tour of duty.

Mr. Massaquoi, who previously served as Protocol to the Honourable Vice President of SL, brings extensive experience in diplomacy and governance that is essential for advancing the nation’s foreign policy objectives within Kuwait.

During the welcome address, SL’s Ambassador to Kuwait, Her Excellency Haja Ishata Thomas, expressed her enthusiasm for having Mr. Massaquoi step into the role, especially following the departure of the former Head of Chancery. She acknowledged the commendable efforts of both diplomatic and local staff in maintaining operations in the absence of a head.

Ambassador Thomas urged the staff to extend their full support to Mr. Massaquoi, facilitating his transition and ensuring the successful execution of his responsibilities.

In response, Mr. Massaquoi expressed profound gratitude to the Ambassador for her support during his transition. He praised the mission’s strong work ethic and organizational structure, attributing these to effective leadership and a dedicated team.

“I deeply admire your achievements as an educator and seasoned diplomat, which have significantly shaped Sierra Leone’s foreign policy in Kuwait and other jurisdictions. It is an honor to begin my diplomatic journey under your guidance, and I look forward to contributing to the success of our mission,” he stated.

Mr. Massaquoi outlined the mission’s core responsibilities, which include promoting national interests, protecting citizens, and enhancing trade, economic, and political cooperation with Kuwait. He reassured the staff of his commitment to professionalism, teamwork, and hard work in the fulfillment of these objectives.

Mr. Massaquoi succeeds Mr. Momodu A. Wurie, who was recalled in 2025 after completing his tour of duty successfully.
