FREETOWN — In a move to strengthen border security and inter-agency coordination, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has trained ten officers of the Sierra Leone Immigration Department (SLID) on the professional use of communication handsets for field and patrol operations.
The practical training, held at the police headquarters, is part of the SLP’s broader mandate to build operational capacity of sister security institutions.
Head of Police Communications, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Cecilia Akibo-Cole, cautioned participants against misuse of the equipment, stressing that the handsets must be handled with care and used strictly for official assignments.
Head of Training, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Alpha Kamara, described the programme as a continuation of the long-standing partnership between the two institutions, urging trainees to translate the knowledge into effective performance during patrols.
Representing the Inspector-General of Police William Fayia Sellu, the Director of Operations, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) John Martin Senesie, said the training is designed to enhance effective communication among SLID personnel in the field and promote professionalism.
He emphasized that sustained collaboration between the SLP and SLID remains critical to improving operational effectiveness and overall security coordination across the country.
The training included intensive hands-on sessions on handling and operating communication handsets under real-life field conditions.
