Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) on Tuesday, April 22, issued a public warning against a fraudulent recruitment notice circulating online that falsely claims the agency is hiring for the 2026 National Population and Housing Census.
The agency said the message, titled “Notice of Recruitment,” has been widely shared on social media and misleads citizens into believing Stats SL is currently seeking applicants nationwide. Officials dismissed the notice as “false and misleading,” confirming that no census-related hiring is underway.
Stats SL noted that its last recruitment for census operations ran from April 27 to May 15, 2025. No temporary or permanent positions have been advertised since.
The fake notice appears to imitate legitimate Stats SL procedures, including claims that shortlisted candidates will be contacted by email — a tactic the agency says is intended to lend credibility to the scam.
The public is advised to ignore any recruitment links or messages not issued through Stats SL’s verified channels. All authentic announcements will be posted only on the agency’s official website and recognized social media accounts, the statement said.
Stats SL warned that such schemes often target unsuspecting applicants for fraud or data theft and urged citizens to verify information before responding to unsolicited offers.
