The Supreme Court of Sierra Leone has issued an injunction that effectively suspends the upcoming national executive elections of the Motor Drivers and General Transport Workers Union. This order arises from a legal dispute involving the Union’s current President, Alpha Amadu Bah, and challenger Mr. Abu Saidu.
The court’s injunction bars all parties, including their agents and affiliates, from conducting or participating in any elections for national executive positions until the court reaches a final resolution on the ongoing legal matter. This development follows Bah’s filing of a Notice of Motion on November 20, 2024, in which he sought consequential orders and an interim injunction to prevent any external interference in the Union’s electoral process. The dispute underscores significant internal tensions within the Motor Drivers and General Transport Workers Union, which serves as a vital organization for transport workers throughout Sierra Leone.
The case has been adjourned to Wednesday, March 26, 2025, when the Supreme Court will reconvene to further deliberate on the matter.
