A six-year-old boy from Sussex Village has undergone double amputation after allegedly suffering severe injuries inflicted by his grandfather, in an incident that has shocked the coastal community.
The assault is said to have occurred in February 2026 after the child misplaced a receipt required to collect the grandfather’s phone from a charging station. Relatives and community sources allege the grandfather tied the boy and subjected him to a brutal beating. The trauma to both arms was so extensive that doctors at Connaught Hospital were forced to amputate to save his life.
Hospital officials confirmed the child received emergency care and the procedures were carried out due to irreversible tissue damage.
The grandfather is currently detained by police. The Sierra Leone Police have not released an official report on the case as investigations continue.
Residents of Sussex and nearby villages have expressed outrage since news of the amputation spread, with many demanding urgent action and stronger enforcement of child protection laws.
