Former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma has pledged to work for national unity and reconciliation following his return to Sierra Leone on Sunday, September 6, 2026.
In his first public address since arriving, Koroma said he was ready to do whatever was necessary to bring Sierra Leoneans together.
“I publicly commit that whatever it takes to achieve this, I will do it. I will do it openly and with an open hand,” he told supporters and party officials.
The former president urged citizens not to be held back by past comments or disagreements. He said he was returning with an open heart and was welcoming to everyone.
“Nobody should feel shy, should feel embarrassed, or [be discouraged by] some comments made here and there,” Koroma said.
He disclosed that he had engaged in deep personal and spiritual reflection during his time away, which he said had left him with “an open and free mind.”
“Fortunately, I have done a lot of spiritual work on myself, and my mind is open and is free. So everybody is welcome,” he added.
Koroma called on Sierra Leoneans to focus on the future rather than the past.
“Let us work together, and let us not look back. Let us move forward together. The past is behind us; let us all move forward together,” he said.
His remarks set the tone for renewed public engagement centred on reconciliation, openness and collective progress.
