Freetown, Sierra Leone – A shocking revelation emerged yesterday, September 17, 2024, that most government vehicles in Sierra Leone are unlicensed and uninsured, posing a significant risk to public safety.
Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee in Parliament, Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, highlighted this issue during the public hearing of the Auditor General’s Report for 2021.
Even vehicles that are licensed are often only insured under third-party policies, which provide inadequate coverage in case of accidents or vehicle damage.
The Auditor General’s Report specifically mentioned that some Ministry of Health vehicles are neither licensed nor insured, violating Section 11.1 of the Government Vehicle and Fleet Policy of 2020. Conteh emphasized the need for urgent action to address this problem and prevent potential losses.
