Ghana and Sierra Leone are poised to sign a Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation (PJCC) on Thursday, April 23, in a move expected to bolster bilateral relations and drive coordinated development across key sectors.
A Sierra Leonean delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Francess Piagie Alghali is in Accra for the ceremony. Technical teams from both nations opened inaugural sessions on Tuesday, April 21, finalizing agreements intended to create a durable institutional framework for collaboration.
The PJCC will cover six strategic areas: trade and agriculture, defense and security, health, energy, tourism, and air services.
The initiative follows high-level consultations between Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama and Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio. The two heads of state met in Freetown in March 2025 and in Accra in January 2026, outlining shared priorities that now underpin the commission’s mandate.
Thursday’s signing will conclude the preparatory phase and formally launch the commission, setting the stage for expanded economic and institutional cooperation between the Republic of Ghana and the Republic of Sierra Leone.
