Kamayama Fire Leaves Families Homeless, Residents Point to Suspected EDSA Fault

By Saidu Jalloh, Daily Scope

A fire tore through Kamayama in Lumley on Wednesday, destroying multiple homes and leaving several families without shelter in western Freetown.

Eyewitnesses at the scene told Africa Young Voices that the blaze may have started from an electrical fault linked to power lines operated by the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority. The flames spread quickly, consuming houses and household belongings before firefighters brought the situation under control.

Thick smoke blanketed parts of the community as residents scrambled to salvage what they could from burning structures. No fatalities had been reported at the time of filing, but many families lost homes and personal property.

Residents cited erratic power supply and suspected electrical sparks as possible triggers, though authorities have not confirmed the cause. Officials said an investigation will be launched to determine the source of the outbreak and assess the extent of the damage.

Affected residents are now calling for urgent relief and support as they begin to recover from the losses.
