EU Commits €1 Million to INSPIRE Youth Peace and Civic Engagement Project

By Joseph Momoh, D.S

The European Union has launched a €1 million project to expand youth participation, promote peacebuilding, and improve responsible information use across Sierra Leone.

Named Inclusive Networks Supporting Peaceful Information and Responsible Engagement, or INSPIRE, the 30-month initiative will target 14,000 young people with training in leadership, peacebuilding, and responsible information sharing. It will also provide capacity support to 300 media practitioners and fund 18 civil society organisations to implement community-based peace activities in 60 communities nationwide.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Julius Ibrahim K. Foday Esq. described INSPIRE as a strategic investment in Sierra Leone’s emerging leaders. He said the project is designed to help build a more peaceful, informed, and inclusive society by equipping youth with practical skills for civic engagement.

The project will be implemented by Action for Advocacy and Development Sierra Leone in partnership with the Agency for Integrated Development Sierra Leone.

The EU said the initiative reflects its ongoing and long-term commitment to Sierra Leone’s development, with a focus on strengthening youth voices and community-led efforts for peace.
