The Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority has refuted claims circulating online that authorities intercepted a large quantity of illicit drugs aboard a Brussels Airlines flight at Freetown International Airport.
In a statement released over the weekend, the SLCAA described the reports as “false, misleading and baseless.” The Authority said no drugs were seized from any Brussels Airlines aircraft, or from any other flight operating through Lungi.
The viral posts alleged that a major drug bust took place on Thursday, July 30, 2026. According to the SLCAA, the claim is entirely untrue and does not reflect what transpired at the airport.
The Authority reiterated that ensuring aviation safety and security remains its top priority. It noted that all airport operations continue to meet national regulations and international civil aviation standards.
The SLCAA also called on the media, social media users, and the general public to avoid sharing unverified information that could cause panic or damage the reputation of Sierra Leone’s aviation sector.
Citizens were urged to rely on official statements from the SLCAA and other competent state institutions for accurate information.
The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the credibility of the country’s air transport industry and thanked the public for supporting the dissemination of factual information.
