The Sierra Leone Roads Authority has closed the Old Railway Line Bridge at Brookfields to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic effective Friday, August 1, 2026, following the discovery of major structural damage.

The decision comes after a recent technical inspection revealed significant deterioration in key components of the bridge, rendering it unsafe for public use.

In a statement, the SLRA said the closure is a precautionary measure to protect lives and property. The Authority noted that public safety remains its top priority.

“The bridge will remain closed until rehabilitation or reconstruction works are undertaken to restore it to a safe and serviceable condition,” the statement read.

Motorists and pedestrians have been advised to comply with traffic control measures and use designated alternative routes during the period of closure.

The SLRA assured the public that further updates will be provided as work progresses to restore the bridge.
