A 44-year-old man has been sentenced to five years in prison by a Freetown magistrate court after being found guilty of stealing US$6,800 from a resident of Regent Village.
The ruling was delivered by Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Court No. 2. The accused faced charges of larceny contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He pleaded not guilty.
According to court evidence, the incident occurred on January 31, 2026 in Regent. Prosecution witness Mohamed Kabbie Conteh told the court he was attacked with a cutlass, stone, and stick before the accused allegedly made away with his bag containing the cash and a Samsung Galaxy S21 mobile phone.
The stolen money was valued at approximately NLe161,160.
Mr. Conteh said he sustained injuries during the attack and received treatment at Connaught Hospital.
Magistrate Fornah handed down the five-year jail term following the conviction.
