FREETOWN — The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its partnership with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) / Doctors Without Borders to improve healthcare delivery and human capital development in Sierra Leone.

The assurance was given during a high-level meeting between Planning Minister, Hon. Kenyeh Barlay, and a senior MSF delegation led by Deputy General Director of MSF Brussels, Chantal Krystle, and Country Director, Mr. Giet.

The meeting, facilitated by MoPED’s Directorate of NGO Affairs, also marked 40 years of MSF’s medical humanitarian operations in Sierra Leone, from 1986 to 2026.

Discussions centred on aligning MSF’s interventions with Government’s Medium-Term National Development Plan (MTNDP) 2024–2030, particularly Game Changer 5.2 on Human Capital Development.

Key focus areas include MSF’s 220-bed Kenema Mother and Child Hospital and the MSF Healthcare Academy, which are designed to improve healthcare services and build the capacity of health professionals across the country.

Minister Barlay reaffirmed MoPED’s commitment to supporting the parliamentary ratification of MSF’s Host Country Agreement (HCA) to provide a stronger framework for its continued operations in Sierra Leone.

She disclosed that MoPED leadership will undertake a working visit to the Kenema Hospital complex and Healthcare Academy to assess progress and deepen collaboration.

The engagement underscores Government’s drive to ensure humanitarian and development partners align their programmes with national development priorities for greater impact.
