The United States Embassy in Sierra Leone held its first College Fair on May 20, 2025, at City Hall, drawing hundreds of students eager to explore educational opportunities in the United States.
The event featured over 15 booths from a diverse array of U.S. colleges and universities, ranging from small liberal arts colleges to major research institutions. Students engaged with representatives, gaining valuable insights into the application process and guidance on selecting colleges that align with their academic and personal aspirations.
In his address to attendees, Ambassador Hunt shared his hopes for the students’ futures, stating, “I wish you the best of luck as you research your education options. I hope this is a small step towards a future where young people like you drive growth, promote stability, and create opportunities that uplift others. The United States stands ready to partner with Sierra Leone in shaping that future.”
Ambassador Hunt also underscored the importance of responsible student visa usage, encouraging attendees to return to Sierra Leone after their studies to contribute positively to their communities.
The event received positive feedback, with appreciation expressed to the teachers and students involved. Among the attendees were Deputy Minister of Education Emily Gogra and Freetown Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, who hosted the fair.
