Professional footballer Mohamed Kamara is set to face the High Court after being charged with multiple offenses related to illegal drug possession and trafficking, highlighting growing concerns over drug-related issues involving public figures.

Kamara’s most recent appearance occurred before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Court No. 2, where he faced five serious charges under the National Drug Control Act of 2008. These charges include:

  • Collecting a prohibited drug without lawful authority, in violation of Section 7(b)
  • Transporting a prohibited drug without lawful authority, as per Section 7(c)
  • Exposing a prohibited drug without lawful authority, also under Section 7(c)
  • Dealing in a prohibited drug without lawful authority, according to Section 8(a)
  • Possessing a prohibited drug without lawful authority, under Section 8(a)

According to the police charge sheet, the alleged offenses took place on March 19, 2025, at the Lumley Police checkpoint in Freetown, where Kamara was accused of unlawfully collecting, transporting, exposing, dealing in, and possessing a prohibited substance.

During the hearing, Kamara did not enter a plea and appeared without legal representation. The state prosecutor informed the court that the prosecution had concluded its case and requested a ruling. Magistrate Fornah determined that sufficient prima facie evidence had been presented to connect Kamara to the charges, leading to the decision to transfer the case to the High Court for trial.

As proceedings advance, Kamara remains in custody awaiting his trial date.
