Three workers of Africell, including engineer Mamoud Kamara, Alie Barrie, and Amara Sesay, appeared before Principal Magistrate Sahr Kekura at the Freetown Magistrate Court No. 1 on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. They were dragged to court by Sierretal Company on allegations of larceny.
The accused faced two counts: conspiracy to commit a crime and larceny, contrary to the Larceny Act of 1916. The charge sheet alleged that they conspired to steal assorted items, including a B15 3606 CDMA 3/2 site, microwave links, and batteries, valued at approximately Le 3.973 billion, property of Sierra Leone Telecommunication Company.
Defense counsel Maddieu Sesay argued for bail, citing the accused’s 27 days in detention and their reliable surities. However, Magistrate Kekura refused bail, emphasizing the seriousness of the matter and the need for progress in the case. He adjourned the matter to September 3, 2024, for continuation.
Prosecutor ASP Dalia Wellington informed the court that the complainant was absent, but Magistrate Kekura urged the prosecution to produce witnesses and exhibits to enable the case to proceed. The accused remain remanded at the Male Correctional Center until the next adjourned date.
