On Saturday, October 11, 2025, the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) successfully intercepted a substantial shipment of Tapentadol, commonly referred to as Tramadol, at the Bo Waterside Port of Entry. Authorities seized 1,067 packs of the drug, valued at $112,315.78 (LRD 21,340,000), concealed within two white slipper bags.
The consignment was associated with 38-year-old Liberian national Mohammed M. Sheriff, who was reportedly traveling from Freetown, Sierra Leone, to Monrovia. The LDEA attributed the successful seizure to routine inspections bolstered by credible intelligence, along with technical support from the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) in Liberia.
“LDEA remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding Liberia’s borders and protecting communities from the detrimental effects of illegal drugs,” stated agency officials. Sheriff is currently in custody, awaiting further legal action in accordance with Liberian law.
