The Sierra Leone Immigration Department (SLID) has initiated an extensive investigation into the alleged misuse of a diplomatic passport after reports surfaced regarding the arrest of a Turkish national involved in criminal and drug-related activities while in possession of the document.
Directed by His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio, the investigation aims to uncover how the individual acquired the passport, authenticate any supporting documents, and identify any procedural lapses or misconduct that may have occurred.
The government and SLID have expressed their deep concern over the allegations, highlighting their commitment to protecting the integrity of diplomatic privileges and preserving the nation’s reputation. “This matter is treated with the utmost seriousness,” officials stated.
In addition to addressing this specific incident, the SLID announced plans to conduct a broader audit of the issuance and utilization of all diplomatic passports to ensure accountability and prevent future abuses. The department reaffirmed its dedication to “integrity, transparency, and upholding the nation’s image,” warning that any confirmed violations will lead to prompt disciplinary and legal repercussions.
