The Government of the Republic of Korea has donated 1,800 metric tonnes of rice, valued at approximately USD 2 million, to bolster Sierra Leone’s Free Quality School Education (FQSE) initiative through the World Food Programme (WFP).

The rice, handed over yesterday, is set to provide daily nutritious meals for over 106,000 pupils across the Bonthe, Kenema, Kambia, and Pujehun districts. This School Feeding Program is a key element of the FQSE, designed to promote student health, motivation, and retention in schools, in line with President Dr. Julius Maada Bio’s commitment to prioritizing education as a fundamental right.

Mr. Augustine Koroma, National Coordinator for Free Quality Education, represented the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) at the ceremony, which also featured Mr. Andrew Odero, WFP Country Representative, and the Counsellor of the Korean Embassy, among other partners.

Speaking on behalf of the Ministry, Mr. Koroma expressed deep gratitude to the Government and people of Korea for their generosity. “This contribution is more than food; it is a daily vote of confidence in every Sierra Leonean child’s potential,” he stated.

This collaboration highlights Sierra Leone’s Human Capital Development Agenda under President Bio, aimed at fostering a healthier, smarter, and stronger nation—one meal, one child, and one classroom at a time.
