Mamoud Kamara, an engineer, and two others, Alie Barrie and Amara Sesay, workers of Africell, appeared before Principal Magistrate Sahr Kekura at the Freetown Magistrate Court No. 1 on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. They are facing two counts of conspiracy to commit a crime and larceny, contrary to the Larceny Act of 1916.
The charge sheet alleges that the accused conspired to commit larceny on July 3, 2024, at Komrabai Village, Lokomasama Chiefdom, and Port Loko District. They are accused of stealing assorted items, including a B15 3606 CDMA 3/2 site, six Aviat Eclipse IGbps microwave links, and twelve deep cycle VLAR Gel batteries, valued at Le3,973,017,000, property of Sierra Leone Telecommunication Company (Sierratel).
Prosecution witness Komrabai Mansaray, a security officer attached to the Sierratel Telecommunication pole, testified that he recognized the accused persons and recalled the incident on July 3, 2024. He stated that he left the site and received a phone call from Africell security, informing him of the accused persons’ presence at the site. Upon his return, he found the gate locked and forced his way in, meeting the accused persons, who claimed to be Africell staff sent to work at the site. Mansaray requested their identity cards and discovered they had tampered with Sierratel property.
The prosecutor sought an adjournment to confer with his witness, and the defense counsel renewed his bail application, which Magistrate Kekura denied due to the seriousness of the matter. The case was adjourned to September 6, 2024.
