On Friday, September 6, 2024, Sam Sesay, a 22-year-old caretaker, appeared before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown. Sesay’s brother, Francis Sesay, a steel bender, testified as a witness in the case.
Sesay is facing two counts: conspiracy to commit a crime and larceny, contrary to section 2 of the Larceny Act 1916. The charges allege that on August 20, 2024, Sesay conspired with others to commit larceny and stole Le150, 000, property of Joan Keister, at #5 Springer Street, Aberdeen, Freetown.
Francis Sesay testified that he visited the accused at his premises on April 20, 2024. The accused asked him to wait upstairs, where they entered the complainant’s bedroom. The accused opened a drawer, removed a bundle of Le10, 000 notes, and offered it to the witness, who refused. The accused then locked the drawer and they went downstairs.
Later, the witness met the accused with two friends and a security guard. Their elder brother arrived, argued with the accused, and left. The witness later heard that money was missing from the house.
The defense applied for bail, but Magistrate Bangura refused due to the evidence presented and the nature of the charges. The matter was adjourned to September 12, 2024.
