The Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) has initiated a crucial capacity-building project in collaboration with the United Kingdom’s Department for Transport (DfT), aiming to facilitate the country’s removal from the UK Safety List.

This strategic initiative is implemented through the UK Civil Aviation Authority International (UKCAAi) and marks a significant step in reinforcing Sierra Leone’s commitment to international aviation safety standards. A multi-agency coordination group has been formed to prepare for the upcoming visit of the UKCAAi team, scheduled for December 1–4, 2025.

During this mission, the team will assess critical components of Sierra Leone’s aviation safety oversight system, provide technical assistance, and highlight essential areas for improvement. The findings from this evaluation will guide future capacity-building programs.

The Director General of SLCAA heralded the partnership as a landmark achievement for the country’s aviation sector. The mission will encompass technical meetings, on-site evaluations, and discussions with key aviation stakeholders.

SLCAA expressed appreciation to the UK Department for Transport and UKCAAi, emphasizing that this initiative is poised to enhance aviation safety and strengthen the regulatory framework within the sector.

Participating institutions in this collaborative effort include the Ministry of Transport and Aviation, the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, the Office of the President, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and the UK Civil Aviation Authority.
