The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has unveiled a significant overhaul of its electricity meter sales process in Sierra Leone. This new initiative, which allows customers to purchase meters directly from EDSA, aims to make electricity access more affordable and enhance customer service across the country.
In an official announcement made Wednesday, EDSA confirmed the cessation of meter sales through its previous approved vendors, including Holley Technology Ltd, Kalleone, and Elite Solution. From now on, EDSA will manage all aspects of meter sales and installations directly.
Under this revamped system, customers will be charged a connection fee encompassing both the cost of the meter and its installation. The revised fees are as follows:
- NLe 1,500 for a Single-Phase Meter
- NLe 2,500 for a Three-Phase Meter
Additionally, an inspectorate fee of NLe 150 is required to be paid to a certified electrical contractor who will evaluate the premises for safety and readiness prior to installation.
EDSA has encouraged customers facing any issues to contact the Authority directly for support. To facilitate the meter purchase process, applicants must present valid identification, including a National ID card, driver’s license, or passport, along with two passport-sized photographs. Meter payments should be processed at the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank, using the account details below:
Account Name: New Service Connection
Account Number: 003 00111 562111 0282
Application forms are available at various EDSA offices nationwide, including select locations in Freetown, the Western Area Rural district, and various provincial towns.
EDSA has issued a warning against any illegal meter sales or installations outside this new framework, threatening prosecution for offenders. The Authority reassured the public that an adequate supply of meters is available for the nationwide rollout.
This initiative is part of EDSA’s broader commitment to reduce financial burdens on customers, promote fair billing practices, and improve transparency in the electricity sector. The Authority aims to deliver reliable, sustainable, and customer-oriented services to meet the increasing demands of Sierra Leoneans.
