On Wednesday, September 11, 2024, Magistrate Santigie at Court No 2, Pademba Road, sentenced a driver, Alhaji Conteh, to three years and six months imprisonment at the Male Correctional Centre for stealing a Four Runner Jeep.
The case, between the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Alhaji Conteh and others, saw the state represented by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Daliah Wellington. The two accused persons faced two counts of Conspiracy Contrary to Law and Larceny Contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act 1961.
Magistrate Santigie convicted the first accused person based on prosecution witnesses’ testimonies, finding him guilty on all counts. The second accused person, Osman Dumbuya, was acquitted and discharged due to lack of substantial evidence.
According to the particulars of the offense, Alhaji Conteh and Osman Dumbuya conspired to commit a felony, stealing a white Toyota Four Runner Jeep valued at $3,500 (Le 600,000) from Aminata Dumbuya on July 13, 2024, at Youyi Building, Freetown.
The first accused person pleaded for mercy, but Magistrate Santigie responded, “Although it’s your first time, I must create awareness and serve as a deterrent to others. I sentence you to three years imprisonment.”
