Istanbul, Türkiye, February 20, 2026 Her Excellency Francess Virginia Anderson, PhD, Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Türkiye, has wrapped up a productive week-long visit to Istanbul, which included important discussions with Istanbul Nişantaşı University focused on establishing a potential academic partnership with the University of Sierra Leone.
During her visit, Ambassador Anderson engaged with the university’s leadership to explore collaboration opportunities in areas such as faculty exchanges, joint research initiatives, academic cooperation, and international student mobility programs.
Istanbul Nişantaşı University, a private foundation institution, offers a wide array of academic programs across disciplines including arts, sciences, engineering, health sciences, business, and communication. The university provides degrees in both Turkish and English, along with postgraduate options, positioning itself as a globally-oriented institution that blends academic theory with the practical skills demanded by today’s competitive job market. Currently, the university enrolls approximately 40,000 students, including over 10,000 international students, among them two from Sierra Leone.
“We welcome partnerships that facilitate faculty exchanges, joint research endeavors, and academic collaborations,” said Professor Ayşegül Komsuoğlu Çıtıpıtıoğlu, the university’s Rector. “We look forward to collaborating with Sierra Leone to strengthen and enrich our educational system.”
In response, Ambassador Anderson expressed her gratitude for the warm hospitality afforded to her delegation. She reaffirmed the Government of Sierra Leone’s commitment to education as a key national development priority, explaining that bolstering higher education partnerships aligns with the country’s agenda to expand access, enhance quality, and invest in human capital.
The Ambassador underscored the significance of proposed exchange programs between Istanbul Nişantaşı University and the University of Sierra Leone, noting that these initiatives will yield substantial academic, professional, cultural, and diplomatic benefits for students and institutions in both nations.
The anticipated partnership aims to strengthen cooperation between Türkiye and Sierra Leone in higher education, fostering educational diplomacy and laying the foundation for long-term institutional collaboration.
