Abu Dhabi, UAE – On October 27, 2025, Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Dean of the African Group of Ambassadors, Rashid Sesay, convened a meeting with African diplomats to discuss renewable energy investments following the recent APRA Investment Forum held in Freetown from October 22 to 23.

During the gathering at the Sierra Leone Embassy in Abu Dhabi, Ambassador Sesay, in partnership with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), briefed his fellow diplomats on the successful outcomes of the forum, which saw high-level participation, including Sierra Leone’s President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio, and other senior officials.

Emphasizing the importance of APRA’s operations, Ambassador Sesay highlighted the need for member state representatives to stay informed about the initiative’s activities. He expressed gratitude to his colleagues for their attendance.

IRENA’s Special Advisor on Energy Transition, Madam Safiatou Alzouma, reported that the Freetown forum attracted representatives from eight out of ten APRA countries, with over 200 participants in total. She noted that 13 projects were pitched, totaling a capacity of 1.1 gigawatts and a budget of $2 billion. Additionally, 11 projects with a capacity of 450 megawatts were showcased from various APRA member states.
