ECOWAS Chief in Freetown for Talks with President Bio Ahead of Regional Summit

The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, was in Freetown on Monday for high-level consultations with President Julius Maada Bio ahead of the bloc’s Mid-Year Summit in Lungi.

The meeting at State House centered on final preparations for the regional gathering expected to bring together Heads of State and Government from across West Africa.

Both leaders reviewed security, logistical, and diplomatic arrangements to ensure a successful summit. Discussions also covered the agenda, which will focus on regional peace and security, economic integration, trade, democratic governance, and sustainable development.

President Bio reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s commitment to ECOWAS ideals and to hosting a summit that delivers tangible outcomes for the region.

Dr. Touray praised the government for its readiness and noted that Sierra Leone’s role as host reflects the country’s growing influence within the sub-region.

The summit in Lungi is being viewed as a key opportunity for West African leaders to strengthen unity and coordinate responses to shared challenges.

As countdown to the meeting continues, attention will turn to the resolutions and commitments expected to shape the future of regional cooperation.
